Comparison of the Performance of Turkish and European Footbal Clubs in Terms of The Efficiency of Transfer Expenditures

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to analyze the performance of Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and 15 selected football clubs from Europe. The study covering 2012/13 season employs Data Envelopment Analysis. The results indicate that only Borussia Dortmund has 100 % total technical efficiency and scale efficiency. According to the efficiency scores, when the clubs are divided into three groups, Besiktas took place among the top 4, Fenerbahce in the middle group and Galatasaray in the bottom group in Turkey.
