Econometrical Analysis of the Impact of Banking Sector on the Environment in Turkey in Terms of Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis

Abstract:
The increase in production along with industrialization has ledto an increase in carbon emission, which in time has caused negativeeffects on the environment. The purpose of study is to researchdevelopments in the world in parallel to the effects of the validity ofthe environmental kuznets curve in the banking sector in turkey witheconometrical analysis. For this purpose, carbon dioxide emission,energy consumption, ratio of banking sector total assets to gdp, gdpand gdp2 variables were analyzed between 1968-2017 years. In theanalysis where all series are in annual frequency, unit root tests wereperformed firstly and all of the series were found to be stationary at thefirst level. Then johansen cointegration test was performed and it wasconcluded that the series were cointegrated in the long term.
