The Efficiency Measurement of Bank Mergers Between 2001-2017 in Turkish Banking Sector by Using Data Envelopment Analysis Method

Abstract: After 1980, Mergers have enhanced and particularly cross-border mergers have been observed in Turkey. In this research, 25 commercial banks that collects deposits worth showing the effectiveness of countinous activities in Turkey from 2001 until the end of 2017 was calculated data envelopment analysis path. In this article, ıt has been analyzed whether in 2005,the efficiency values of banks which merged and acquiisitoned with foreign capital have increased. The BCC fractional model was used to calculate the data envelopment analysis and the calculations were made with the Microsoft Excel Meta Solver. The method was used as intermediation model. Total deposits, total operational expenses and non-deposit foreign resources were used as inputs in the model, while total domestic loans and total banking revenues were used as outputs. As a result of the research, it is determined that there is a increase in efficiency in the banks that are merged and acquisitioned with foreign capital.
