THE RUSSIAN METALLURGY FROM THE CRISIS OF 1998 TILL THE CRISIS OF 2008–2009, OR MORE THAN TEN YEARS OF THE UNSOLVED PROBLEMS

Abstract: The paper discusses the peculiarities of the development of Russia’s metallurgy sector before the crisis of 1998 and at the present time after the peak of the global financial—and—economic crisis of 2008—2009 has been overcome. The author analyses the main problems of Russia’s metals sector which were not completely solved after the crisis of 1998 and are still awaiting their complete solution. In the conclusion the author is offering a number of solutions for the problems he has analyzed which seemingly not only capable to improve the situation in the ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy in Russia, but also contribute to the dynamic development of the Russian economy as a whole through the implementation of innovative technologies, advancement of the novel, environmentally friendly and energetically efficient types of products in the sectors that consume the metallurgical products.
