Abstract:
Zygotic embryos and lateral buds of Tapeinochilos ananassae were inoculated into full or half-strength MS medium (½ MS) containing three antioxidants: ascorbic acid, activated charcoal, and PVP at concentrations of 0.25; 3.0 and 0.5 g.L-1 respectively. The ½ MS medium supplemented with 3.0 g.L-1 activated charcoal resulted in the best embryo establishment and plant development. The lateral buds showed no significant development, an intense phenolic oxidation and high microbial contamination (mainly bacterial). Enzymatic analysis of oxidized lateral buds showed a decline in peroxidase activity and an increase in polyphenoloxidase activity.
