Abstract: Lawsone (2†hydroxynaphthalene†1, 4†dione) is a natural colorant which shows significant fashionable and textile activity. Traditionally in India, mehandi is applied to hands and feet. Henna symbolizes fertility. Its use became popular in India because of its cooling effect in the hot Indian summers.
