Abstract:
The invasive species Prosopis juliflora (Prosopis) is a threat to the functioning and structure of ecosystems in Ethiopia. This study (1) evaluate the phenology of Prosopis in the Southern Afar Region of Ethiopia, (2) investigate the effects of weather conditions on the phenology of Prosopis in the Afar Region, and (3) assess the critical months of seed dispersal for the species management from different dispersal agents. Monthly data for phenology events: leafing, flowering, green and mature pods were collected from 8 stems of Prosopis trees in Awash Fentale and Amibara districts. In Amibara district we found that 91 were green leaf, 15 flowering abundances, 9, green pods, and 2 mature pods. These were less than by 8, 53, 91, and 90, from what we found in Amibara district, respectively.
