An Exploration into LULC Dynamics and Level of Urbanization The Case of Wolaita Sodo City and its Peripheries

Abstract: This study assessed current and historic land use, land cover (LULC) dynamics and the level of urbanization in Wolaita Sodo and its peripheries since 1985 up to 2016. Thus, it’s aimed to offer an increased understanding of the growing dynamics of land use changes in relation to the level of urbanization. The study primarily employed advanced technologies like GIS and RS to collect and analyze accurate and reliable information. In addition, survey questionnaire was used to gather quantitative and qualitative data from 200 respondents and then linear regression model and descriptive analysis was done by using SPSS v.21 software. The study showed that the area under forestland, bare land, grassland and cropland were declined while the area under built-up area was increased.
