Abstract:
A substantial body of literature has examined the causative factors of Diabetes Mellitus, both Type 1 and Type 2. Comorbidity between diabetes and eating disorders (EDs) have been reported in studies dating back to the 1980s. A review of the literature indicates that relatively little information is available about these comorbidities, the risk factors associated with them, the mechanisms of their development, and how to treat them appropriately. This narrative review of the literature finds that there is a concerning prevalence of EDs and disturbed eating behaviours (DEBs) in the Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus population (T1DM).
