Abstract: There is a rapidly increasing epidemic of type 2 diabetes in India and other Asian countries due to rapid urbanization and lifestyle changes occurring in the country. India faces several challenges in diabetes management, including a rising prevalence in urban and rural areas, lack of disease awareness among the public, limited health care facilities, high cost of treatment, and rising prevalence of diabetic complications. Current antidiabetic agents fail to address disease progression and are often associated with weight gain and risk of hypoglycemia.
