A Cognitively Accessible Digital Storytelling Tool for People with Intellectual and Other Cognitive Disabilities

Abstract: Limited literacy and written expression skills are frequently barriers to self-expression and other forms of social inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This article reports a pilot study of a cognitively-accessible iPad® App designed to enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to engage in self-expression using multimedia formats. Findings suggest that incorporating cognitive access features can promote self-expression for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
