Abstract: Although olive cultivation is practiced in the Mediterranean Basin for centuries and the current diffusion of oliviculture worldwide is largely plain to see, even today mass propagation of olive trees (Olea europaea L.) through the in vitro techniques finds impediments due to a series of problems. So, differently of other species, micropropagation of olive isn’t yet a commercial practice, even if it could represent a suitable solution to obtain high-quality and quite safe plant material. In this work strength points, problems, expectations and perspectives of micropropagation applied to olive are reported.
