Neurological Complications of the COVID-19 Pandemic: what is Known, what has Ensued and what the Pandemic Portend?

Abstract: The current COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation in which potential neurological complications are beginning to manifest although the full spectrum of the neurological complications of this infection have yet to be fully elucidated. Several potential mechanisms by which neurological diseases may arise as an epiphenomenon include hypercoagulability, molecular mimicry, and cytokine storm. This article reviews the available literature and postulates potential neurological complications of COVID-19 infections based on these pathophysiologies. Although no specific treatment has been proven to be effective to date, preventive measures and management of COVID-19 associated complications is currently recommended.
