Abstract: In a first instance, we approached a view of the Brazilian fishery management underwent political decisions that have modified its organizational administrative structure along last years, for example, no longer consider seasonal fishing closures subsidies to small scale fishers, in part given the current political and economic crisis creating the need to cut down on costs; a decision, that is likely to create further costs, nullifying the savings hoped for. Secondly, we provide suggestions on ways to maintain these subsidies, as to improve the fishery management processes, urging that considering fisheries participants in the political decisions will become essential for sustainable small-scale fisheries.
