Abstract: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune chronic inflammatory disease. Progress in understanding the pathogenesis of RA processes increased the interest in studying the biomarkers involved in different stages of the disease. The current classification criteria for RA include two different types of biomarkers that represent inflammatory processes, such as C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate or immune processes that include autoantibodies, such as rheumatoid factor (RF) and antibodies against citrullinated proteins. (ACPA). In this article, we review both autoantibody methods for detection and utility in the diagnosis, prognosis and follow-up of RA.
