Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to study the role of integration or of long term contracts within vertical structures trying to protect themselves against the entry of potential competitors. The initial vertical structure is composed of a producer and a retailer. They are in different situations, for the producer is upstream and the retailer is in an intermediate position between downstream and upstream. This difference does not have any consequence as long as producer and retailer are in a position of monopoly but will lead to asymmetries when the initial structure faces potential entrants.
