Convergence des productivités européennes: Transition, rupture et racine unitaire

Stéphane Adjemian

Annals of Economics and Statistics, 2003, issue 69, 31-53

Abstract: This paper aims to resolve the conflict between the time series approach and the classical approach to test the convergence hypothesis. Using a multivariate KPSS statistic and allowing for one common break, it appears that European productivity dynamics may be split into two sub-periods. During the first, productivity gaps are reducing. During the second, productivity gaps are zero mean processes. Moreover, productivity discrepancies are shown to be stationary over the entire period.
