Mr Malinvaud and Econometrics

Pascal Mazodier

Annals of Economics and Statistics, 2017, issue 125-126, 169-185

Abstract: Among other achievements, Malinvaud is well known for his contributions to econometrics. This article considers what he brought to econometric methods, and what the use of econometrics brought to his economic views. As he aged, while noting the main failures of macroeconomic models, he put less responsibility on the inadequacy of econometric methods than on the shortcomings of economic theory, and maintained belief in the usefulness of econometrics.
