Annals of Economics and Statistics, 2021, issue 143, 1-69
Abstract:
This profile of Jean-Jacques Laffont is based on several interviews with Colette Laffont, his wife, as well as with former colleagues and coauthors. The interviews took place between September 2019 and June 2020. The objective is twofold. First, to trace the career of a highly influential economist who made seminal contributions to the fields of mechanism design, public economics, regulation, econometrics, and development economics. Second, to show how Laffont and his colleagues contributed to changing the French landscape of economic research notably through the establishment of the Toulouse School of Economics.
