Abstract:
This paper econometrically analyzes whether and to what extent the structural features of the legal system affect the labor market. According to the regression results, a legal system characterized by judicial dependence, biased courts, a lack of intellectual property protection, frequent military interference, as well as a lack of integrity diminishes the performance of the labor market considerably. Obviously, this has a particularly adverse impact on women and young people. The most detrimental aspects appear to be limited or non-existent judicial independence, biased courts, and the legal system's lack of integrity.
