Abstract:
In order to shed light on differences between European member states concerning company training activities, possible influencing factors for firm sponsored training activities are deducted. These factors are tested in a European comparison covering Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the United Kingdom on the basis of the micro data of the second Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS2). Largely, the theoretical expectations can be confirmed: The indicators for technical innovation, assessments of skill needs in firms, the existence of initial vocational training contracts, organisational change as well as collective training agreements are positively linked to the incidents of training courses in companies. Furthermore, certain differences in the estimation results between the countries point to the strong influence on training that can evolve from the financial and institutional framework conditions of the national continuing vocational training systems.
