Abstract:
Agricultural decline (in terms of income and employment) has been accompanied by matching processes of urban residents' increasingly profound exploration and growing interest in the more distant locations treating the countryside more as a place of consumption. This can be clearly through demand of second-home owners for several goods and services supplied locally by farms, businesses and individuals. This paper seeks to assess the scale of local purchasing among second-home owners in Finland and Poland as well as to identify what factors decide that in some locations demand for certain local products is considerable and diversified while in others - weak and modest. The data used in this study as from postal surveys and direct interviews with nearly 900 second- home owners conducted in 40 municipalities in Finland and Poland. In order to identify main drivers for respondents' consumer behavior / spending patterns Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were applied.
