Foreign aid in a post-pandemic era: some reflections

Abstract:
The debate on the effectiveness of aid and whether aid works or not is as old as aid giving itself. It has been an alive and kicking debate for many years, but at the same time a deeply politicised and unhealthy at times debate that goes beyond academic circles deeply influencing public opinion and aid recipients and aid donors alike. Although aid issues are still dominated by politics and ideology in many cases and a tendency to ‘return to the scene of the crime’, the overall context in which foreign aid is now perceived and assessed is dramatically different.
