Abstract:
This article aims to analyze the process of deindustrialization in Brazil from 1999 to 2018, in an attempt to find new evidence to explain this process in the Brazilian economy. Following the concepts on the subject in the literature, results were found that show an early process in Brazilian industry in the analyzed period. The manufacturing industry lost share both in terms of employment and in terms of added value. This result may be the effect of both internal and external factors, which in combination may be leading to an industrialization process by backward substitutions.
