Abstract: Industrial policies are crucial intervention mechanisms to stimulate the devel-opment of a local economy and to accelerate the process of globalization of a country. However, little is known about the effects of industrial policies on the internationalization process in developing economies, such as Brazil. This re-search aims to analyze the effects of state intervention through industrial policies on the internationalization of Brazilian companies in the period between 1982 and 2014. Considering integrated autoregressive moving average estimators (Arima), the results allowed us to identify that only the Industrial, Technology and Foreign Trade Policy (Política Industrial, Tecnológica e de Comércio Exterior [Pitce]) con-tributed positively to stimulate the outflow of foreign direct investment (FDI). However, the Productive Development Policy (PDP) had a negative impact on FDI outflows. The results demonstrate the need for an alignment between indus-trial policies and the stimulation of a country’s internationalization process.
