Abstract:
This article presents and discusses the current conditionings of Brazilian soluble coffee insertion in the international market; as well it’s recent evolu-tion. Brazil has been reducing its relative participation in this competitive market. Considering the characteristics of this international market and the behavior of the competitors, the article analyzes the possibility the country uses the drawback mechanism to set equal conditions of operation in the international market. The theoretical and empirical results suggest that do-mestic problems in the production of green coffee, the main input of soluble coffee, affects negatively the international demand for Brazilian soluble coffee. Furthermore, they suggest that some of the temporary loss of traditional con-sumers turn into definitively losses.
