Abstract:
Changes taking place in society and the economy imply the emergence of new methods of problem solving and development. Social innovation has become the driving force. This chapter presents them as determinants of the development of participatory society, which exists thanks to the participation of four actors. The paper presents a literature review, along with examples of social innovations implemented in Poland and Europe. The conclusions provide confirmation arguments that social innovations can be determinants of the development of local communities; they counteract social exclusion and reduce inequalities.
