Abstract: Scientific knowledge of an economic phenomenon comes from either the understanding of concrete facts or from deductive and inductive reasoning. Scientific knowledge is often associated to a scale of social values that gives the research an objective character. What research methodology should be used to test the perception of the subterranean economy in Romania? How should the research methodology be used in order to test the perception of the subterranean economy in Romania? According to economic theory, the answers to the two questions mentioned above will lead to the scientific knowledge of the phenomenon of subterranean economy itself.
