Abstract: The impact of increasingly large catastrophes on the economics of world states prompted a call for thorough evaluation of possible strategies to reduce their harmful effects. Also, more high frecvency of the catastrophal phenomena determinated at global level, but also at the level of individual countries greater emphasis concerns to insurance, to cope with major losses occurring in such situations. The article analyzes the evolution of global catastrophes and a comparison of the protective measures against catastrophes introduced by some countries in Europe.
