Abstract:
Digital transformation has emerged as a pivotal driver of economic and societal change, propelled by the accelerated advancement of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). In the Romanian context, this transition reveals a pronounced disparity between the country’s digital potential and its structural limitations. This study critically examines the extent to which the adoption of AI and other emerging technologies can stimulate economic growth, while also emphasizing the risks associated with a digitally driven transition that lacks a coherent and inclusive reskilling strategy. By employing data from diverse sources and applying econometric modelling, the research explores the interplay between the degree of automation and digitalization in Romania and its principal determinants. The findings underscore that the effectiveness of digital transformation is fundamentally contingent upon the preparedness of the human capital to assimilate and interact with new technologies, as well as on the presence of targeted financial support mechanisms designed to facilitate such adaptation.
