Can Beer Consumption be Part of a Healthy Diet?

Michael McCullough and Richard Volpe

Choices: The Magazine of Food, Farm, and Resource Issues, 2017, vol. 32, issue 3

Abstract: The U.S. Dietary Guidelines illustrate how to calculate a “standard drink” of 10 grams of alcohol across beverage types, but do not describe the potential health benefits of such. This article discusses the current literature on the health benefits of beer consumption and how policy might better inform consumers about healthy consumption.
