Choices: The Magazine of Food, Farm, and Resource Issues, 2020, vol. 35, issue 2

Abstract: The 2018 Chinese tariffs on U.S. soybean contributed to a significant restructuring of the global soybean trade. We show that the new tariffs are also likely lead to land use change abroad. The extent of natural land cover losses in Brazil will depend on the durability of Brazil’s policies for environmental protection and land clearing.
