Research Trends of Radioactive Contamination Influences on Agriculture and Food Consumption Behavior

Toshiyuki Monma

Journal of Rural Economics, 2013, vol. 85, issue 01, 12

Abstract: This paper reviewed the research results of agriculture and food consumption related to the Great East Japan Earthquake in the field of Socio-Economics, and tried to evaluate the major results, remaining issues and directions of future research which should be expanded. In particularly, we have evaluated the conference and symposium's discussion contents, research papers and commercial journal articles. As a result, in the field of Socio-Economics, the research of agriculture has been mainly focused on the following two fields: 1) the development of a radiation monitoring system and decontamination, and 2) the study of radioactive contamination of agricultural and food products, consumer behavior and harmful rumors. All these research results are valuable and give us much information. However, the way of providing the research results to public is not sufficient, so the collaboration between academic societies is important.
