Abstract:
This article starts with a statement on basic values and principles of common acceptance which seems to be emerging from the current debate in South Africa. The present agricultural situation is analysed, especially as it rclat~s to agricultural land use, agricultural production and resource productivity and economic, environmental and ecological sustainability criteria. 1ltis article also considers some interim options from a security of expectations viewpoint
