Abstract:
Four phases of formal strategic decision-making were identified. The distinguishing characteristics of the four phases were extrapolated to grain cooperatives in the Republic of South Africa. It was determined that they are in the first two phases of formal strategic decision-making and that as a group they are therefore not strategically managed. A greater degree of strategic management of grain cooperatives will ensure increasingly effective strategic decision-making which should have a positive impact on inter alia capital formation.
