ST ANDPUNT: DIE ENTREPRENEURSPOTENSIAAL VAN BO ERE: 'N VOORLOPIGE STUDIE

Agrekon, 1995, vol. 34, issue 3

Abstract: In the new South Africa, a freer and less regulated market for agricultural products is envisaged. It is also doubtful whether the same degree of proteation and aid will be supplied to fam1ers by our new democratic govemment. Surviving this changed situation will require a greater degree of entrepreneurship on the part of the Janner. As a result of past circumstances, there is some concem about the potential for entrepreneurship among fam1ers, as colllrol measures bureaucracy and inte, frence in the market forces tend to limit entrepreneurship. This study firstly attempts to establish what makes an entrepreneur, and secondly to investigate the existence of a model for detennining or estimating the entrepreneurial potential within a certain agricultural sector. An empirical study which attempts to estimate or detennine the entrepreneurial potential for fanners in the various branches of the agicultural sector in South Africa is envisaged.
