Economia Agraria (Revista Economia Agraria), 2009, vol. 13, 10

Abstract: The main aim of this research is to identify the factors that affect the commercial relation between fruit growers and export companies. The analysis is based on a cross-section survey data of 206 medium-scale farmers. The fi eldwork was carried out in the central regions of Chile, the heart of the fruit and vegetable production areas. This analysis is done by econometric estimation of logistic regression model. The results indicate that there is not suffi cient motives to state that there exists some problems between fruit growers and export companies. We conclude that the factors that increase the probability of having problems with the export companies are: infrastructure, long-term debt and credit constraints. On the other hand, the factor that reduces the probability of having problems is the number of hectares.
