Les sciences sociales à la découverte de la pauvreté
Henri Mendras
Économie rurale, 1968, vol. 76
Abstract:
The modem industrial society generates both wealth and poverty. The existence of slums in the neighbourhood of Paris reveals the presence of poorer classes, that had been defined as an absence by the society. Autonomie and having its own structures and standards, this « counter-society » is essentially self' consumer ; for that it is similar to the sustenance agriculture, which is still considerable in France. The present economic theory denies the importance of self -consumption. But on the contrary, is not there any reason to elaborate a theory about it ?
