Le développement agricole face à la diversité de l'agriculture française

François Colson

Économie rurale, 1986, vol. 172

Abstract: An agricultural development policy adapted to the variability of french agriculture - --The convention on development has contributed in putting foreward the theme of the diversification of the farms, theme which has become very popular within agricultural organisations. The variability of productions and the heterogeneity of farms have been put foreward as a sign of the leeway of French agriculture for twenty years. Extension work bodies advocated technical advice necessary to a specialization of farms and intensification of productions. To day diversification of farms is considered as one of the conditions of adaptation to the constraints of the market. The promotion of « different sorts of agriculture » is proposed as an opportunity for the most advanced farmers. This change will affect deeply the traditional farm type model employing 2 work units, standard model for all agricultural policy measures since 1960. This new move already justifies a development policy adapted to this new sort of agriculture.
