Abstract:
This paper studies the trade-off between vegetables purchases and home production with the 1991 French National Food Survey. We model the availability of a garden, and the total and home-produced vegetables consumptions. Estimation is obtained by using two-step procedures in which the decision to consume is distinct from the decision on the amount consumed. Results show the independence between total vegetables consumption and home-produced vegetables consumption. We obtain as well interesting socio-demo- graphic effects which can differ on the frequency and the volume of home-produced food consumption.
