Abstract:
Coccophagoides utilis is arrhenotokous. The females develop as internal primary parasites of Parlatoria oleae whereas the males develop adelphoparasitically on the prepupal and pupal stages of their own species. A significant aspect of the life history of C. utilis is a mechanism of retarded development in certain female progeny which ensures that the males on emerging meet with females.
