Abstract:
Activities related to beef cattle farming in Brazil are highly prominent, given that the country has the largest commercial herd in the world, being the second largest producer and the largest exporter of beef worldwide. The main characteristic in the development of this activity in the country is the heterogeneity in production systems and in the mechanisms of management and marketing of cattle. Brazilian livestock farming has undergone major changes in recent years. In the industry, professionalization has led companies to go public, internationalize, diversify activities and products and, as a consequence in an oligopolistic market, to the concentration of the sector. Within the farm gate, the productive sector has also achieved progress in the use of technologies, diversification of activities and new forms of marketing, with the input industry and meatpacking plants. The future of the beef cattle market, as well as for the entire Brazilian agribusiness, is promising, mainly due to the availability of land and water in the national territory to produce meat and offer it to the world.
