Abstract:
The changes undergone In the Korean beef cattle sector since 1990 are examined in areas such as changes in the number of beef cattle farms and beef cattle, prices of the beef cattle and beef. The policies implemented by the government for "soft" landing for the beef sector in the face of the liberalization of beef market In 2001 are evaluated in several selected areas. They include endeavor for both of cutdown of the production cost of the beef cattle and enhancement of beef quality, and effectiveness of incentive payments to prevent the number of mature cows from declining. And a set of policies to be pursued in the future for a stable growth of the Korean beef cattle sector are suggested.
