Journal of Rural Development/Nongchon-Gyeongje, 2001, vol. 24, issue 2

Abstract: The purpose of this study is (1) to provide trends and prospects of floricultural production for farms. (2) to provide the flower farmers with strategies of management improvement and the government officers with policy support direction in order to overcome current difficulties. The Korean floricultural industry with a high income-elasticity has been growing along with national income increase. However real floricultural production in 2001 is expected to decrease due to depressed consumption expectation as a result of the recent economic slowdown. Among this situations, flower exports has increased due to rising exchange rates. developing new sales channels due to sluggish domestic demand. Korea's floricultural exports is primarily targeted to Japan. Meanwhile China's floricultural industry is growing rapidly as the Chinese government is fostering the industry. Therefore, china is expected to rise as a competitor in the Japanese market.
