The Role of Human Capital Development on Sustainable Agricultural Productivity in Nigeria

Abstract: This paper evaluates the role of human capital development on sustainable agricultural productivity in Nigeria. Precisely, it aims to: (i) highlight the importance of human capital development in the agricultural activities in Nigeria; and (ii) identify the effects of human capital development on agricultural productivity in Nigeria. The paper adopted a desk research approach, using empirical studies to achieve the objective of the study. From the reviewed literature, it was established that human capital development significantly affects agricultural productivity in Nigeria. Therefore, to achieve a sustainable agricultural productivity in Nigeria, the paper recommends amongst others that government should carry out a critical assessment of the Nigerian educational sector aimed at revitalizing the sector since it plays a key role in human capital development of any country
