Abstract:
The purpose of the analysis was to show trends in foreign trade of live pigs in light of the profitability of its production in Poland. In the last few years a trend towards more negative balance of trade in pig products was being observed, while import of piglets and weaners was increasing. Increasing turnover of the foreign trade in pigs was accompanied by relatively slow processes of concentration of pigs production, a significant decrease of livestock and the number of farms involved in the breeding of pigs (in this sows) in Poland. The fall in the domestic production of the pigs was caused, among others, deterioration of the profitability of pig production.
