Abstract:
Production of waste is one of the challenges faced by contemporary economics, it is also one of the leading factors affecting the environment. One of the methods to reduce this problem is the re-use of waste, which is possible due to its selective collection. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the “Act amending the Act on maintaining cleanliness and the instrument in municipalities and some other acts” on the decision of the selective collection of waste and on the improvement of the natural environment in the opinion of the surveyed representatives of households. For this purpose, research questions were specified: Does the “Act amending the Act on maintaining cleanliness and the instrument in municipalities and some other acts” in the opinion of the residents of rural areas of Lubelskie voivodship affect the state and protection of the environment? Is the approach to the selective or non-selective collection of household waste associated with the introduction of legal norms? The results of the research made it possible to get answers to such research questions: over 80% of the respondents were of the opinion that the introduction of legal solutions would positively impact the environment; only just over 50% of the respondents declared the selective collection of waste by 1 July 2013, and after the date the act was entered into force, the collection was carried out in all households.
