Abstract: There is currently large progress in using local, renewable energy sources in relation to the increasing requirements of the environment protection. This also applies to rural areas. Sustainable development of the rural areas requires the construction or improvement of tools which serve the purpose of using local energy sources, particularly renewable ones. The aim of this study was to present the issues of the purposes of renewable energy sources in the rural areas of Pomerania Province of Poland. Research was conducted among 282 farmers from Pomerania in March 2016. The research employed the diagnostic survey method and the questionnaire technique. The research showed that there are wide possibilities of introducing RES in farming households. The purposes of the RES buildings, heating and/or cooling rooms and products, heating utility water as well as drying crops.
