SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING OF RURAL WOMEN IN POLAND

Abstract: Research on the subjective well-being of rural residents in Poland, including from the perspective of women, is highly important in the context of the specific features of rural areas and the socio-economic changes that have taken place in recent years. The aim of the study was to determine the level of life satisfaction among rural women in Poland and to compare it with the life satisfaction of men. Socio-economic factors associated with women’s life satisfaction were also identified using the chi-square independence test. The study used the most recent data from the European Social Survey (ESS) Round 11 (2023), with reference to Round 2 (2004) to illustrate changes over time. The results showed that life satisfaction among women in rural areas is higher than among men. The factors associated with women’s life satisfaction were health, institutional trust, and living with a partner. Subjective wellbeing in rural areas, viewed from a gender perspective, should be systematically monitored in order to achieve a higher level of well-being in society as a whole.
