Abstract:
This manuscript presents a part of author’s survey on the functioning of a family with an intellectuallyhandicapped child. The objective of the reported survey was to diagnose occupational situation and educational status of parents of children with intellectual disability. The survey was conducted in May of 2009 and covered 136 families from the city of Biała Podlaska. The study demonstrated that nearly half the fathers and mothers had only primary or vocational education. As the type of work performed the respondents most frequently declared different forms of physical work as well as retirement pension, social pension and, unfortunately, a lack of any job. It should be emphasized that this condition may afford no possibilities for complete development of a handicapped child.
